+3:00 GMT 18:53 09 December 2008 Kuwait City, Kuwait :: Welcome to the desert.

Kuwait's pretty cool, I gotta say. I've not seen a whole lot of it but it's not all that dissimilar from NYC. You start to think that it has a peculiar aroma, and that there's a lot of trash and litter and man, what a shithole but then like, you remember you're in a big-ass city (kuwait proper:~63k people; surrounding metro area: 2.4 million) and that's how it goes in big-ass cities.
I dunno where to start so I'll just begin.
My apartment is pretty cool. It's a blend of Prince of Persia style tile and antique doors and fixtures with modern amenities.
This is a view of my apt as you enter the front door. No big deal:

I like how the bathroom is all tiled up, floor and ceiling, with the same tiles as the floor throughout the rest of the apartment. This gives it a very Turkish bathhouse feel to me, although I have nothing on which to base this feeling other than films and similar. I don't have any pics of my bathroom because that's just weird. It's very... Arabic? =P
My balcony is behind the drapes in the above photo. The view from my balcony is fantastic; it looks right out over the Arabic Gulf. Apparently, the locals get upset if you call it the "Persian Gulf":

This is another pic, same balcony same view. It was just an exceptionally clear day. I'll post a pic on a normal dusty-ass day to show difference:

I don't have any other pictures at this time, for several reasons:
I don't have a camera, I don't have a car, I don't have a whole lot of money and even if I did have all of those things, I don't have any time off. Oh, sure, I had the first few days after my boots hit the sand off but that jet-lag was a bitch. Today is the first day I've felt normal since about halfway through my long-ass flight. Anyway, Kuwait is a trip, y'all. I thought that the images you imagine about it would be all typical American penchant to believe stereotypes, but it's so not; it's all true.
There are piles of rubble all over the place, and lots of litter and trash, with stray cats running around all kinds digging around in dumpsters and refuse heaps.
There are gutted out buildings all over the place, and even some that look bombed. Yes, still.
Even the nice apartment buildings, such as the one in which I live, has substandard wiring and and cracks in the walls. The cracks I can understand, it's part of living in a building made of concrete. The wiring and appliances are a trip though. My washing machine is the size of a microwave. I guess this could be the cheapness that is company housing, but actually, I think this is rather upscale for a flat here, because workers from Bangladesh are lucky to have running water as they're crammed dorm style 3 to a bedroom and share a bathroom with an entire floor.
In contrast, there are huge villas that look like a spread of condos that are actually one huge-ass house. For real, there's no "single-family homes" that I've seen. Either it's a tall big city style apartment building (high-rise, there's no such thing as apartment complexes over here) or sprawling mansions.
One high-rise apartment building I saw was really cool. Apparently, though it's a high-rise, you still drive up to your apartment, and your carport is part of your actual apartment. It's new and very swanky, and it costs around 2700KD a month to live there. That's about 10,000 USD for the uninitiated. Crazy.
We hit some chop over the nort Atlantic, and I was thinking to myself, Please oh please, whatever God or Gods as may be, please just let me crash over land. I don't know why, but if could be that we manage to successfully crash-land I aint trying to freeze to death like Leonardo at the end of Titanic. Fuck that. So please, hook it up over land.

I guess I do have one more pic.
It's from my nightstand here in Kuwait so I can look at it every morning.

You know who you are; I love you.

My flight leaves tomorrow at 13:29 for Atlanta, and my ultimate destination is Kuwait City, Kuwait. I've got shirts and khakis and underpants all packed, I've got all my papers filed to finalize things with my divorce, I've got my nice neat little shit I want to keep but can't take with me in storage.
The next time I update this, it will be from the fabulous middle-east!

-7:00 GMT 11:19 07 November 2008 Albuquerque, NM, USA :: Tribute

I just had to take a second to say "Thank you," to my friend Deedee. She once told me, many years ago, that "You can have absolutely everything you want in life." And she was right. Deed, I dunno if you'll ever read this (I think you might) but you're probably the most beautiful soul I know. ...well, tied for first at least. =D I love you!

-7:00 GMT 12:11 04 November 2008 Albuquerque, NM, USA :: The Other News

It would probably help, if you're not up to speed, to read the "prologue" here.
Once you've read that, you should read this.
I strongly suggest that you read this in the order presented, if you've not already read the prologue (culled from a recent essay) as otherwise things will make little sense. Alright, so at this point you can understand, it will make sense, when I say things such as "It's pretty cool; I have an awesome dog now. ...and a parrot." So, I wanted to show you guys some pictures of the pooch, and parrot.

This is Ki, which is short for Kitsune, which is japanese for "fox". As you can see it's very fitting. He's a jindo/shiba mix.

Despondent Ki is despondent...

We need to get Ki some doggy clothes, because people clothes don't fit right.

Finally, this is Gandalf. ...for obvious reasons.

I was just hangin out, tripping on everything in my life--I am on a great adventure--and thought, holy shit, I has a dog. A cool fucking dog. ...and, in true pirate fashion, a parrot.

-7:00 GMT 12:11 24 October 2008 Albuquerque, NM, USA :: Holy shit, where to begin?

There is so much going on right now it's retarded. It is not my intention to list things in order of importance, so if it ends up that way fine, if not then what can I tell ya? Just be aware that these bulletins are not listed in any particular order, concerning importance or otherwise.
I'll be moving to Kuwait for a year, specifically Kuwait City, further specifically, Camp Arifjan. The reason for this drastic move is for employment with a DoD contractor called CSA. It's a great opportunity to get my shit together and start a career wot will be rewarding. Yay for that, now I just gotta play my cards properly.
So that's big news, that's where it all starts. Everyone asks me how Chris feels about this, and it's a bit awkward, because while she's cool with it, on the one hand, the other hand is that things aren't going to work out on that front. This I guess is bigger news, but for real, all my friends are not suprised as they have seen this coming for some time. Essentially, I've not been happy for several years and everyone who knows me knows this. It's finally time to move on because this situation is just not going to evolve. Things are pretty mellow, I mean, we're working out how to divide our life into seperate lives with--how did Jesse put it?--with grace and poise.
There's other news, but, I don't feel like blogging about it just now. Those of you who know, know. If you don't? You will.
For now, let me just say this:
FINALLY!

-7:00 GMT 09:23 02 October 2008 Albuquerque, NM, USA :: There must be a better way.

I really need to figure out how to make this thing easier to update. Only, I think about updating, then think of the pain in the ass I have to go through (I'm likely doing it wrong) and then put it off. Then I put if off some more. Then I do it some more.
So, what's new?
I've stopped playing WoW pretty much. I don't see myself going back to it any time soon. I've managed to switch to a different drug called WAR. If you know what it is, great, if not, oh well. I named my main after Logen Ninefingers in a new book I've been reading, The Blade Itself: The First Law Book I by Joe Abercrombie. This is what Logen in WAR looks like.
Neat.
In other news, I've had some more ink done (finally) and am really pleased with the result. I hope to have the whole piece completed soon. Here are some pics:
One
Two
Three
That's all I got for now. Sorry to subject you to my armpit, but if you're here you probably don't mind so much as we're mates n' all.
It's early and I'm still pre-caffeine, so I'm off to take care of that.

-7:00 GMT 23:17 26 August 2008 Albuquerque, NM, USA :: What is your will, my Master?

I just played the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed demo and yeah... I'm harder than a Japanese crossword right now.

-7:00 GMT 12:35 19 August 2008 Albuquerque, NM, USA :: I feel sicky

Yesterday, actually, and a bit the day before. Basically:

I don't feel so hot today, and as I type this it feels a bit like the diary entries I'd find whilst playing Resident Evil...
Sick today. Sicker yesterday. Dave came by so I ate him. Crunchy. Tasty.
In retrospect I think it was caffeine withdrawals, because I didn't have any fancy-pants creamer to apply to my coffee (I think I don't really like the taste of coffee) and by the time it occurred to me I was having a Trainspotting moment I was already melting on the couch watching Carnivale with Chris. Today I felt like assnballs, but I dragged my carcass in to work anyway, and after a couple of cups I'm feelin okay. Still dealing with some of the fallout of bein' sick, the nitty gritty of which I shall spare you.

-7:00 GMT 15:00 13 August 2008 Albuquerque, NM, USA :: What deity may I have displeased?

I don't know what I may have done, or not done, for days like this to occur. It seems like I pissed off some god or demon at some point, because I can imagine that they look down on me, or up as the case may be, and pronounce the sentence "TODAY YOU WILL TALK TO THE DUMBEST MOTHERFUCKERS ON EARTH.
I'm not going to get into specifics, that would be boring and tiresome. Suffice to say that most times my job is very cool, other times my job is an incredible pain in the ass but still not bad at all, and then there are days where every call is placed by someone lacking a fully functioning brain.
Again, this is not your run-of-the-mill technical support snobfobbery; this is one human being's mind reeling at the level of willful ignorance and helplessness of another. Basically: I-can't-help-you, breathy pause, if-you-don't-ask-a-ques-tion. said with a plastic smile and a couple of bittersweet blinks.
-_-
Also, let's try inserting an image, just for the fuckin arse of it:

-7:00 GMT 11:07 09 August 2008 Albuquerque, NM, USA :: Welcome! Willkommen! Bienvenue! Bienvenidos! Bem-vindo! Bonvenon! Irashaimasu! Huan yin!

Thank you for stopping by for my inaugural post. In addition to learning CSS, I am also making this site as a replacement for my blog at livejournal. It is my intention update this site periodically (those of you, honestly it should be everyone reading this, who are familiar with term "blog" will find this sentence redundant) with the inane goings-on of my pathetic life, just like I did at lj. The main difference is that I'll be learning how to design a web page, and then a site, and so on. Point being, I'll be blogging about my happy bullshit (which I would be doing anyfuckingway) but also learning how to do something useful and cool in conjunction with that inanity.
As you no doubt have thought, I have a long way to go. This is the result of a few hours study, interspersed with some actual work; I am at my job, after all. Eventually I hope to learn how to clean the site up and make it look "kewl" and add content like a gallery for pictures of, I dunno, trips n' shit, friends and what not, all that sort of shit. I have so much to learn, as evidenced by how shittily this page is currently coded. I can't rightly call it a "site" yet because there's only one faffing page.

My to-do list for this site:
Learn how to:
- create other pages, and link to them
- add a link to the forum
- make a bulleted list.
- make a better site logo, so it'll resize along with the window.
- make it easier to edit.
- generally get my shit together so it'll seem a though I have a least some idea wtf I'm doing.
- do something interesting with my life so I'll have some worthwhile content to post.

...okay that last one isn't really a goal for this site so much as it's a goal in general, but it all ties together.
